Beginning in January 2019, the University of Neuchâtel began to reduce the carbon footprint of its academic air travel. Funds are deducted from flight costs and contributed to a fund that supports sustainable development at the university and related local sustainability projects.
The policy is consistent with the university charter, which acknowledges the institution’s responsibilities toward promoting a sustainable environment. The UniD Commission selects sustainability projects that will receive contributed funds, pending Rectorate approval, and use will be detailed in an annual report on sustainable development.
