If we do this right, within my lifetime no one should be flying. The challenge is we live in an area that has mass transit options other than flying. Thus for most distances, flying from here has a lower carbon footprint than driving a personal car. This brings an existential question: do I want to continue to live in a place that will be extremely isolated in the post carbon future?

I research and write about post carbon landscape architecture – finding ways of doing the great things that need to be done to improve quality of life and restore ecosystems without using fossil fuels.
