I carried out a PhD in ocean renewable energy, especially wave energy. I hopped on countless planes to go to conferences and emitted tonnes of CO2, literally. My research will, however, never produce a single kWh of “clean” energy. The best I can do to help my research avoid CO2 emissions is, realistically, to stop taking the plane.
