I feel increasingly uncomfortable with flying, for work and privately. Many conferences in Europe can be visited by train, but it would help if they were organized in central places, easy to reach. I commute by train, and for other travels and my partner’s work we bought an electric car.

From our experience, charging stations are insufficiently available and this is especially a challenge during longer travels. We need to figure out new ways of connection and that includes sharing with colleagues across the globe without having to travel, and traveling with a minimum of flights.

I work on gender and diversity issues in public health and medical education. Climate change is a main factor for global inequalities and has a severe impact on health — in particular the poorer population, more so women and children. We are developing a minor Global Health Amsterdam which needs to incorporate climate change and its relation to health and health inequities.
