Air travel is a huge contributor to carbon emissions, and the culture of academic conferences has resulted in academia contributing more than its economic weight in this area.

We now have the technology to enable and promote remote attendance at these events, and I think it’s important to lead the way with footprint minimisation, even though it comes with the loss of face-to-face interactions.
