I have stopped flying for quite a few years now. Before 2000 I lived in New Zealand for five years, so have done some long hauls in the past between NZ and the UK. I enjoy train and boat trips and find that the longer the journey the more I wind down from normal busy life when I go away; the journey is part of the trip not just a means to and end.
I’m traveling to Dublin in June and am a little frustrated at the cost of the train and boat versus a flight, but can’t bring myself to fly anymore. One small stand I have decided to make.
My research work is in recovery for addictions and the implementation of addiction services. There are some parallels between addiction and climate change denial; a crisis point often needs to be reached before change, sometimes change comes too late.
