I recently flew from UK to New York to speak at a conference. I desperately didn’t want to go due to the enormous emissions, but as a junior researcher I felt obligated in order to benefit my career.

Our reliance on conferences in science is unacceptable, we have to find a more sustainable way of conducting research and avoid flying altogether.
