Long-distance travel is costly in many ways – carbon, time, effort, & money. It’s much more efficient for most academicians to stay back from most meetings they are invited to. I regularly suggest remote participation, and my grad student class just released a survey on the topic of flying less, so we’ll be writing a paper in the coming months.
