I work in cancer prevention at a major cancer center. For years I have traveled to conferences, meetings, study sections, to give talks, etc. While it is very important to maintain networks and to be able to bounce ideas off scientists from other institutions, it is not clear to me why this should require so much flying.
Our scientific carbon footprint is a major issue for climate change. How can we ask others to change if we are not prepared to do so ourselves?
I am an epidemiologist who works on behaviors that are associated with cancer. My studies have included large, multi-center randomized trials, as well as analyses of large population level data sets.
