In our family we have made a number of changes in our life to reduce our consumption of fossil fuels — commuting by public transit or bike, eating local and mostly veggies, solar panels, electric cars, heat pumps, etc…

Flying is the main holdout in terms of still consuming large quantities of fossil fuels. I pledge to push for options at conferences to use webinars and use Zoom to conduct meetings whenever possible, and I’ll only fly to one critical conference per year.

I’m a mycorrhizal forest ecologist by training, and my current main focus is on inclusive excellence and broadening participation in STEM.
