Every time I got on a plane to go to an academic conference, I would cringe. I haven’t taken a flight in several years and I don’t miss it. Remote collaboration works fine, if not better, than traditional face-to-face meetings.

While there may be some impact to my career, I simply have no interest in participating in the wasteful culture of excess associated with air travel today.

I am an urban geographer and environmental social scientist. My work examines the role of urban greenspace – traditional parks and gardens, green infrastructure, the urban tree canopy, and urban ‘natural’ areas – in efforts to confront the interlocking challenges of climate change adaptation, urbanization, and social inequality in US cities.
