As a climate science educator and learning designer working across state, national, and international scales, I have found it challenging to reduce flying. However, I am working towards less travel overall, am working more virtually (virtual happy hours for networking are a real thing), and am improving awareness about this issue across all contexts within which I work.
My research is working to understand how we hold justice central in our efforts to work towards climate mitigation, resilience, and adaptation. Many historically marginalized communities are engaged in innovative activities around climate justice; however, their connections to existing structures of power is fragmented.
We all need each other going forward; working toward this is difficult but necessary.
