It is undeniable that the lifestyles considered “normal” in the rich world are robbing masses of people of their livelihoods. Exploitation, unfair trade, and massive environmental footprints are an obvious injustice against current and future generations.
It’s high time for new, rational, and responsible lifestyles: buying fair trade and/or local clothes and food, flying as little as possible, using sustainable transport instead of the car, eating less animal products—in my view, these are acts of respect to other people, who also have a right to life. We as scientists must lead the way.
