I have flown many times as a child and young adult. My father is British and my mother American, and we flew to the UK at least every couple years growing up. I went to Hungary twice during high school to study dance, and to Brazil as an adult ‘just because’. That doesn’t count all the domestic flying I have also done.

I grew up with privilege, but like many millennials I am financially worse off than my parents, so I don’t have the money for trips now. I do miss flying, and I feel sad that I won’t be taking my daughter, who is three, on a plane. But I feel better knowing that I am not contributing to emissions on that scale and I think my daughter would prefer a living planet than a one-time experience. She already loves taking the hybrid-electric city bus, and I can’t wait to take her on a train.
