​As an oceanographer it is sometimes unavoidable to use the airplane to reach the departure places of the oceanographic cruises. On the other hand, direct participation in major international meetings bringing together several thousand colleagues must be rethought both in terms of environmental footprint and communication efficiency. As scientists addressing environmental issues, whether global or local, we owe it to ourselves to set an example for the entire world population.
