Reducing my flying has resulted in attending fewer conferences, but not the total loss of collaboration opportunities that I had feared. I’ve had delightful adventures on Amtrak and making trips to conferences into interesting road trips with stops to look at plants along the way.

Reduced flying has helped me think broadly about my priorities and how I spend my time in a way that has been refreshing overall.

I am a plant ecologist at a small primarily undergraduate institution. My research is varied, focusing on lichen ecology, air quality, and biotic soil crusts.
