I am reducing my emissions by 1) only going to conferences that I am directly involved in; 2) taking family vacations at the same place as my conference, if possible; 3) refusing to give talks that are abroad or that involve long flights.
While this isn’t possible all the time, and I can definitely still reduce my flights and my emissions, having this carbon budget really helps me focus on what’s important and how I can do my part in fighting climate change.
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher working with Yoshua Bengio on a project that uses Artificial Intelligence to visualize the consequences of climate change. The goal of our project is to develop an interactive website to depict accurate, vivid, and personalized outcomes of climate change, which will bring the future closer in the mind of the viewer and will demonstrate specific actions they can take to improve the environment.
